CEDAR RAPIDS (Monday, March 30, 2020) – Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, will address the leadership of the Iowa Federation of Republican Women during their Spring Board Meeting via video conference on Saturday, April 4.
For 80 years the Iowa Federation has been meeting face-to-face at locations around the state, and even though we can’t get together in person right now, our work goes on,” said Barbara Hames-Bryant, IowaFRW president from Cedar Rapids. “We are Republican women on a mission to support and elect Republicans. We could watch the news and worry about COVID-19, or we can realize this will be over someday, heed our great governor’s advice about social distancing, and move forward.”
Saturday’s virtual event begins with an Executive Committee meeting at 9 a.m., followed by a full board meeting at 10:30 a.m., with leaders from across the state looking forward to conducting Federation business and hearing from Sen. Ernst, Iowa’s first female U.S. senator, the nation’s first female combat veteran to serve in the Senate, and a fellow IowaFRW member.
“Having served in the Iowa Army National Guard, I’ve seen the incredible things our state and country can achieve when we come together. Iowans are resilient and I have been working nonstop to ensure Iowa families have paid sick leave, our seniors are being looked out for, small businesses have assistance, and our health care workers have the needed protective equipment,” said Ernst.
“These trying times call for unity and exceptional leadership, not just in the government, but all across our Iowa communities,” Ernst continued. “Through the years, the Iowa Federation of Republican Women has shown devoted and effective leadership in our communities and that is no different today. Though I cannot wait until the next time I am able to join everyone in person, I am looking forward to the opportunity to connect by video at the upcoming Spring Board Meeting.”
Added Hames-Bryant: “There are critical elections coming up in November – including Senator Ernst’s re-election – and we choose to put our effort into shaping our future. We continue to share ideas and energize each other; we’re just doing that via video conference, rather than in person.”
