Lahn Bests Four Opponents in Governor Race

 (WEDNESDAY, June 3, 2026) – The long, rugged road to the Republican Primary has ended with two top-of-the-ballot races resulting in Congresswoman Ashley Hinson winning the contest for Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, and businessman Zach Lahn earning the Republican nomination for governor.

“The Iowa Federation of Republican Women heartily congratulates long-time IowaFRW member U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson on securing the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate; and Zach Lahn for winning the nomination for governor,” said IowaFRW President Denise Bubeck, from Grimes. “We extend our sincere appreciation to all the candidates who participated in the primary election, including Rep. Eddie Andrews, Congressman Randy Feenstra, Brad Sherman, and Adam Steen, who ran for governor; and Jim Carlin who opposed Hinson in the Senate race. Their willingness to step forward and serve reflects the strength and depth of our Republican Party.

“Congratulations to Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer, for her win in the State Auditor’s primary race and to Abigail Maas who opposed Cournoyer for the seat. Both Cournoyer and Maas are IowaFRW members and we salute them for their commitment to the conservative cause,” Bubeck added.

Congratulations to Congressional District 1 incumbent and IowaFRW member U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks for winning her district’s nomination over David Pautsch.

Congratulations to Congressional District 2 nominee Joe Mitchell for besting opponent Iowa Sen. Charlie McClintock.

Congratulations to Congressional District 3 nominee and incumbent U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn and District 4 nominee Chris McGowan. Nunn ran unopposed and McGowan, who had four opponents early in the contest, was the final campaigner in this contest as the four other candidates had departed the race by the time ballots were printed.

“We thank each of you for your courage, leadership, and desire to be a voice for Iowa families, farmers, small businesses, and communities,” said Bubeck.
