Message from the President
By Kim Reem
It is exciting to launch our 75th anniversary year with a vision to see the Iowa Federation of Republican Women (IowaFRW) succeed for another 75 years. Our heritage is rich! We are known for empowering women in the cause of good government and for working to elect Republican leaders. We have a lot to be proud of as we celebrate the diamond anniversary of the IowaFRW together.
We cannot, however, afford to rest on this great accomplishment.
Connecting with members across our state, we have quickly seen the significant challenges facing us: our membership is stagnant; and some clubs are folding due to declining membership numbers, while other clubs are waiting for leaders to emerge. The situation may appear bleak, yet we are optimistic.
Our IowaFRW Leadership Team is making progress in these areas. We are choosing to bury the word “can’t” and challenging each other to figure out how “we can.” We are already reaping the rewards of our efforts as we see enthusiastic responses from Republican women across Iowa.
At the time of this writing, we have a new charter request from a northwest Iowa county, our first new club since 2008. We are launching several “After 5” clubs, with a goal to attract members on their way home from work in a relaxed, social setting. And, we have asked each Executive Committee member and Regional Director to be responsible for getting at least one club started or revived during this biennium. It is an ambitious strategy, but we believe we can accomplish this goal.
Planning for the IowaFRW to be successful for the next 75 years starts now. It starts with each of us.
Would you like to see your club grow? Does your club need leadership? Do you have members who are no longer able to drive to your meetings?
We challenge you to consider what you can do to overcome these obstacles in 2014. Who can you invite? Who can you sponsor? Who can you mentor? Who can you lead?
As we go forward together, let’s be Republican women who can!
